Is this your first book?
Yes, it is.
Why did you start with a children’s book?
Because I’m lazy. I thought it wouldn’t have to be that long and I’d have it done in a week. A year and 26,000 words later I realised it’s actually really hard!
Where did you get the idea for Timmy?
I was driving between Buckden and Starbotton one day after the river had burst its banks. The valley was all flooded and I thought “I wonder if the fish get giddy and go swimming round the fields?” That was the lightbulb moment … TING!!!
Is that what ‘Field Day’ means then?
Well spotted! And yes, ‘Timmy the Trout Has a Field Day’ is the first book. ‘The Legend of Hubberholme Bridge’ is actually the second (except I wrote it first) and ‘Valley of Rainbows’ is the third one.
What’s next, Timmy The Movie?!!
