This amazing, multi award winning eco-initiative brings nature right into your classroom! What could be more exciting than hatching and rearing your own trout fry from eggs and then releasing them in your nearest river? Around Christmas you’ll get a tank and then the trout eggs are delivered in January.
Once they have hatched it’s up to you to feed and look after them for about 12 weeks until they are about as long as your finger. They are then known as “fingerlings” and are big enough to release back into the wild.
It costs over £1000 to deliver the project but you should find that The Environment Agency will pay for most, if not all, of that cost. And there are plenty of other organisations willing to fund such a worthy project!
